reflection on Sunday 10/6/2013 fulfilling the Dream

2 Kings 2:1-5

My understanding of the sermon was a lesson on following GOD without complaint. I know we have a tendency to give up and get angry when GOD tells us to do something but we have to follow him steadfastly without complaint. The sermon touched on how when GOD gives us a dream , it is important for us to not give up on the dream. I loved the points that the pastor mentioned using references to Noah, Abraham, Joseph

  1. Often times the dream will seem to be unattainable by our standards
  2. Often times the dream will take a while to be fulfilled
  3. Often times the dream will hit roadblocks or stumbles

Those points things make people shy away from the dreams that GOD gives us, it makes people give up on our true calling but we must keep on like Elisha, when Elijah was testing him telling him to give up to stay put and allow him to go alone , Elisha didn't, he knew his mission was not complete! He knew it may be stumbles, he knew it may seem like its hopeless, but the important thing is to keep on pushing because he knew GOD wanted him to!

I think about how I have seen miracles happen in my life. When things went well only because of the grace of GOD. I knew I could not explain it with common logic! I look at even my family and my eyes grow watery as I gaze upon my wife and kids knowing that I don't deserve them but GOD blessed me with them. How I received degrees not being that smart, how I could have been shot but GOD stopped the person ahead of time, how a kid with low self confidence is able to teach hundreds of kids over the years! The blessings are endless!

Now I have to think about how I need to dream bigger. I need to talk to GOD and sincerely ask what is it he wants me to do so that I can truly bring GLORY and honor to him! I have poor grammar, bad spelling , and speech issues but I  know GOD will enable me to use the internet as a platform to spread the GOSPEL and provide a tech enthusiast community who is committed to serving the LORD. It doesn't make sense for me to be successful in tech, I'm already in my 30s without a tech degree but I know GOD will make sense of the nonsensical. I have to be patient, work is hard, math is harder, but I want to learn this tech! I cant give up! If Noah can build a boat for over a hundred years when it has never been rain, and Joseph can face obstacle after obstacle, I can surely wait for people to take notice of Tech Blog aimed at Christians!

Think tonight or even as you read this, what is a BIG DREAM GOD has for you something that seems out of reach , that may take a long time to fulfill, that will cause trouble in your life , but most importantly give HONOR and GLORY to OUR FATHER in HEAVEN in JESUS name I pray AMEN!

Sunday reflection 9/29

1 Kings 19:19-21
INSANELY COMMITTED
Todays sermon was about how Elisha followed Elijah as Elijah prepared him to take over GODs mission for his people. The pastor named the sermon insanely committed. Elisha's reaction to Elijah show an insane commitment because like in his life many things GOD want us to do to serve him seems to be insane in the worlds view but its exactly what GOD wants from us! We are supposed to stand out and work hard and go beyond the worlds concept of commitment. The pastor first talked about how Elijah knew he needed a helper because GOD told him to get a helper and a replacer. Then he spoke about how Elisha , seemingly a rich man left his many oxen prepared his parents and left on his way, challenging us to let go of everything and give all to GOD.

I know the "lone ranger" concept has had an effect in my life. I as a man adopt the lie of this world in assuming its not "manly" to lean on someone else. I feel that I am effectively performing as the spiritual leader of my family but I have to realize that I am falling short when I am not modeling the submission to GOD in the role of leaning on a spiritual partner in fellowship. My wife cant point to someone that she knows I talk to when I have a man matter! I have the pastor but do I have the fellowship and spiritual companionship outside my wife? I know the answer, and prayerfully I keep the commitment to garnering a new answer soon. I have to be obedient and not forsake the company of other brothers and sisters, not just my wife.

The next part of the sermon was an amazing tool used for me to reflect on my spiritual walk. Elisha let go of his oxen but do I still have oxen holding me back? I know I have been consciously working on cutting off the things that is not showing that I love the LORD. I reflect on my refusal to purchase the hottest new game. I may have mentioned it before but I was thinking to myself I cant claim I love the LORD and I am playing a game in which I can only win by pimping, murdering, and selling drugs. I liken that to my wife. I cant tell my wife I love her and spend my week watching porn. In both situations I can use the excuse, "I'm not actually doing it , its just fantasy , its just entertainment." ,,,I cant imagine my wife or my GOD believing I'm really in love! The pastor mentioned how we treat GOD like a girlfriend, we love the warm fuzzies we get like the spiritual high we get when the choir working, we like the weekend date like church , we like when she there when we need her like GOD in the hard times, but during the week, during the hard times, when the other things in our life want our attention, do we show that we are committed? I cant show GOD love when I want , we are his BRIDE!!! I have to serve GOD in all I do! This is the motivation of this blog, I know I love technology and social networking, I have an interest and understanding of geeky things and explaining why but I know I have to know even in doing so I can give glory to GOD! Even when Im doing this hobby, I am doing ministry trying to be insanely committed!

The last big thing was a small point of the sermon. Elisha kissed his father first. As a child I often hugged my father. He was there every day and shown a commitment to me as a son, the weird thing is I have allowed the devil's influence on our culture effect me as well in my relationship with my father. I still feel like we are closer than some but it was even taught to me by him, that my mom is the important one. That my mom is the affectionate one. I think the greatest effect of sin in our culture is the breakdown of manhood in our society. Manhood is the direct link to father hood. I have to be sure to recommit to GOD's design of fatherhood for my children! So that if GOD wills, they will grow up to be insanely committed to GOD in all aspects of life!

Lets leave all the things behind , lets stop dating GOD, lets give GOD more than free time and show off how much we love GOD to everyone we speak to like we show off our ring when we get married. This week, every time I mention my wife and kids, I will make a point to mention JESUS! GOD BLESS!

things i heard this past week 10/1

Nexus 5 photo. This look a lot like the nexus 7 I think it will be nice to go the smamsung rooute and streamline the design across the board. People are angry at the camera but I don't know why I think it doesn't make a difference and o guess I'm used to it because it looks similar to the bezel around the nexus 7 cam. There are rumored specs like snapdragon 800 , 2 gig ram, sseperate graphics and the usual but I think nexus stands out primarily by price and os so the is nothing to be excited about or remember for that matter. What would you guys like to see?

Aereo delayed Chicago launch. From my knowledge Aereo is a service that allows you to watch local tv online. I know some are saying so what but aereo hosts the channels so you don't have to worry about tweaking your computer with a antenna or run cords. They sent an email a few days ago saying that the rollout will be late because the beta went wrong. This makes me so sad because I want to be a cord cutter but I need a reliable solution to have commercials play as environmental noise as I interact with my family. Am I the only one that feels less comfortable when Netflix is playing all say? It seems like a commitment or something I have to plan for. I never hear people say it but I think we enjoy the randomness of TV and its commercials. Netflix forces you tk make a decision. Any cord cutters excited about this?

Amazon new tablets-- this is amazing how they compete with Google on bottom prices. Outside of Google I probably use amazon the most. Specs seem to be on par with the nexus 7 and the price is the same but the fire hdx has a bigger display at 8.9. The only drawback is app compatibility. I don't use the amazon app store but I don't recall much apps for my taste not a available on this store but in Google play. They retained last years fire HD but placed it in a new body ala apple iPhone 5c (oops).. The killer feature is. "Mayday" that will be a button that will connect you to a customer rep in 15 seconds. Jeff Bezos the owner of amazon claim they will be ready for Christmas but I can't imagine he realizes just how much this thing is going to sell. I know while your reading this your thinking of a elder family member to give it too! The commercial alone makes me want to press "mayday" as soon as I get the chance. Hey but on another note, if there is anyone who can claim to have the logistics ,its amazon! I'm typing this on my nexus wrapped i a case I ordered 2 days ago! ,,,,,,,,,,,,

Oh yeah and the review's of the note 3 is released and from what I'm reading this is the phone to beat!!!

things I heard 9/24

Iphone 5c and 5s sell over 9 million - this is the most ever I honestly dont know why but I guess people still are obsessed with the iphone the most. I feel like the outsider, I know most of the critics poo pooed this version but I got to remember I do not represent the masses as a far as features I want on a phone so maybe the rest of the world is just going on with the trend. For now the trend is still saying iphone and i guess you can say momentum has its place!

surface 2 and surface 2 pro - the new one is supposed to have a much better screen with full 1080p hd and the surface 2 has the Tegra 4 processor that should be 2x the performance. IT will also have office built in and thats including outlook. I think that will be a dream for a teacher, but I am not sure if it will allow java apps to be uploaded. The pro seems to be even more interesting because it was already an awesome design but now it has the power of the haswell chip. The chip has proven to be amazing for battery life and I'm hearing 8 hours performance, thats a full work day. It also has graphics for low level settings or basic games, and I heard that the chips run cooler to avoid sweaty thighs! I like that both also will have a deeper pitch with the kickstand that will help with balance on the lap and the keyboard is thinner which will help with portability. I love this announcement , its only 1 thing,,,,,wait for it,,,,,,,,,,,PRICE!!!!! its 459, and 899 respectively. Thats not including the keyboards ! So your looking at high end prices, admittedly I think the pro can reasonably be considered the macbook of pc's like the sleekest most attractive thing windows has to offer. I want one to be honest!

kitkat leaked images showing a flat trend - this news sickens me! I have recently seen supposedly leaked images of kit kat and the icons are looking flat and ios'sy. This seems to be a "if your friend jump off the bridge" type of trend. I hate how icons look on IOS 7 they are flat and ugly! I refuse to believe I am the only one who thinks its stupid that we make all this effort to get awesome screens only to create images that could've been made in the 90's. No depth or shadowing? wow that is as crazy as updating your camera lenses to take dusty filters for Instagram pics, oh wait,,,,,,,,,

blackberry up for sale- ok so umm I was trying to make you care but lets see. I dont know why people are all obsessed with bbm. I guess it is supposed to be cool but the blackberry people I asked didn't really give me a good reason to be excited. I know the keyboards was dope and people like the push of the emails but I dont know anything special about bbm that makes it better than imessage or hangouts, please tell me maybe I am ignorant. I see its canadian financial company that purchased them but why? I joked last month about apple or yahoo buying blackberry maybe its going to be true. I can see the phone being a good thing for people who have better ideas. Well on another thought maybe keyboards is just played..
GOD BLESS!

Sunday Reflection 9/14

1 King 19:1-5
This was a story basically how Elijah got scared and ran for his life when Jezebel swore by her gods she will kill him. Our pastor applied it to a sermon about how we sometimes get back into our flesh and have fear when we know GOD blessed us and how when we start working in our own flesh and not of GOD we become depressed. He last touched on how in verse 5 the Angel comforts Elijah noting how sometimes we have to take a rest so we don't get burned out when working for the LORD and ask HIM for comfort when we find ourselves depressed.
I look at my own life at how it was times when I was depressed. The times seem even more harsh when I found the LORD and began striving to serve him yet I still get back depressed. I often think it is in times in my life when I become complacent in what I am doing and I tend to boast at least to myself on how much I grew in the LORD. Sometimes it happens when I foolishly pretend I asked GOD for direction when I really wasn't looking for HIS answer so I take things upon myself. I know that GOD wanted me to do big moves over the summer yet I delayed and now I find myself stressed about things that I may have avoided if I had only obeyed. I know that obedience is a ongoing struggle for us both new believers or so called veterans.
As a man I can sometimes distance myself from others trying to handle things myself thinking that its the manly thing to do. That's a foolish concept of men thinking that we are not to consult others and work with others when it comes to matters of faith just to preserve a sense of leadership. True leadership is modeling like GOD did as he came down as his son JESUS CHRIST to serve and show love. I know if I preach or testify on Christian brotherhood, I have to model it as well. Elijah committed that sin when he left his servant and went into the wilderness alone "woah is me.". .I need to have accountability partners in the Church when I find myself battling depression.
I also enjoyed taking time to look at Elijah talking as though he wanted to die. With the promise of being with my FATHER IN HEAVEN. It seems oh so sweet to fast forward to that day but that is selfish. GOD has saved me for so much more. A true believer is filled with the HOLY SPIRIT which gives us a desire to do GOD's will. We are to be beacons of light for the world so we are hear on a mission. I cant give up until my mission is complete. THANK YOU GOD FOR THIS TASK.
Finally I take comfort in knowing that I have to be ok with slowing down and pray for comfort. I think us Christian men want to serve so much that we overwhelm ourselves. We too soon foolishly think we are more than what we are. As if we don't have time to pray because, what would the world do without us. My wife lived 20+  years without me, she will be ok if I stay in the room once all morning praying intensely to GOD for comfort and direction. Every champion I hear or read about mentions the value of preparation. If we are going to be champions for CHRIST we must dedicate ourselves to preparation, and that preparation is prayer! Constantly searching for direction and comfort! GOD BLESS

Things I heard 9/14 iphone, 8.1, nexus lte , chromebooks, nexus 5

It has been a while isnce I updated so forgive me if some of this is dated but I just wanted to talk about the things that caught my eye or ears or ...whatever

1. Chromebook updates- I am sure windows is nervous because it seems as though there is a new buddy in town. All of the big vendors from lenovo, toshiba, to hp are making their own version of the chromebook. The chromebooks range from arm low powered arm chips, mid range atom refreshed bay trail processors, and surprising cheaper haswell. For non geeks this means the chromebooks will be able to run longer on the battery, run faster, and have better graphics! I love my Acer A7, its my go to machine for creating content because most of what I do is using google apps. This will just make things smoother for me when I ad a linux os on the side.

2. Possible Nexus 5 FCC leak - this was pretty cool people seem to be freaking out like it was an iphone. I see android fanboys can be just as passionate. I found myself clicking on every story I seen mentioning the nexus 5. That speaks a lot when your device gained so much loyalty, people cant wait to the next iteration. You have previously only seen that on the iphone and recently galaxy.

3. iphone 5c preorders- it is a lot to this story because what people are not talking about is the fact that I don't hear anything about iphone 5s orders ? Why not? Does apple realize that the announcement is underwhelming? Are they trying to build up a artificial sense of demand? I don't know , i guess I am a hypocrite because I seem to be excited about a processor bump to chromebooks when it is the same thing but I made fun of apple! I guess its just hard for those on top!

4. new windows 8.1 devices - i heard something about Asus coming with an 8.1 transformer type device for about $350! Wow if this is the case I am definitely interested. The problem with windows tablets is the price. The low price of android tablets helped people leave their comfort zone of the ipad but the surface was too expensive. As a government employee who is forced to use windows at work, I think I would like to have a portable device that runs windows and windows product. I have to admit though Im interested, it will be hard for me to part from my nexus!

5. Nexus LTE is here! - Im so excited! I have talked often about how I wish I had a device to rule them all, I was excited about the note 3 and I got really excited about the Sony Ultra Z but I have been waiting on the Nexus 7 LTE. I heard that tmobile will give a free month when you activate the sim card that it comes shipped with. I currently subscribe to verizon lte for my old ipad but I would love to switch it out. I now face the hard part. I need to seel my nexus devices so I can purchase a lte nexus 7 and maybe a cheap flip for backup. Any body want a nexus package? I need like 400 to cover tax. Leave comments for suggestions and let me know will using this as a phone and tablet will be a good choice!

iphone presse event 9/10

so the big thing I heard today was the iphone announcement and this one time admitted apple fanboy revealed to the world just how much I now distant myself from apple. I was laughing and resenting the keypoints during the key note and I laughed at the things that I knew my former allies where going to be happy about. I decided to take some screenshots of my nexus to do an annoying little point. Admittedly none of this matter in the bigger picture because nothing can bring you to joy but the HOLY SPIRIT but this is just fun stuff, so enjoy and as always, GOD BLESS.

things I heard 9/8

Samsung Note 3 - it was weird because I was listening to the twit live coverage of the Samsung unpacked event and they seemed to be un-amused at this phone, I think this phone is awesome! (dj lance voice, unless I can get sued) . I had plans to write about what specs I would like in a new phone and this phone seems to come close. It has 3 gigs of ram which seems plenty, it does picture in picture, it has a floating screen like you tube, it has a strong quad core chip and it has a stylus that opens a note option when you pull it so you don't have that awkward moment asking someone to hold on while you open a notes app and then find out later auto-correct rendered the note you typed useless. If you like me finding yourself putting your phone back in your pocket and writing on scrap paper, you would love to have this spen and large screen. oh the screen is nearly 6 inches. Earlier I spoke how I would love to have cell service on my Nexus 7 but this phone also replaces that, I would love it was a 6.5 like the mega but hey this is a cool compromise. I am just thinking how awesome it would be just to have the one mobile device when I'm out in about , using a aftermarket wallet case for my licence and one debit hoping that nfc will make most of my payments. I don't like carrying baggage so the less I have to carry the better! so umm yeah i wont a note 3

galaxy gear- wow what a dumb name but moving on. This "gear" is basically a smart watch. I will be honest its pretty cool and if I wasn't so happy with nexus I probably would have a Samsung phone which is needed for the gg because it doesn't actually have a data radio. Its basically a glorified pebble..mms/d.mgzn.sfngf sorry I fell  asleep on the keys from the boredom. I am confident enough to exclaim out loud tho that I am nerdy enough to rush out and get one if somebody like ,,,,Apple come out with a stand alone smart watch that can make calls , can take pictures crappy or not , have nfc , and Bluetooth 4.0. I can use my nexus 7 for every thing else . Remember I don't like walking around carrying stuff , but if I had a actual phone on my wrist I can run in jump and play with my kids at the park without the worry of things falling out my pocket!

nexus 5 spotting, maybe- i feel like cnet asking a question to spread a rumor as if it was true but i love them (dont attack me I am a fan). This is understandable because there was a guy using a large phone that said nexus and it was next to a lady holding a nexus 4 , how convenient , which made it clear this phone will be bigger. There was soon after , convenient again, fcc specs on a phone which happen to have a similar model number that match eyeball specs, haha. Supposedly it will have a 5 inch screen , seems huge but nexus 4 is 4.7. I just hope the phone has longer battery , speakers on the front or bottom , and as mentioned earlier, I wish that it couldve had an even bigger screen. haha I know what your thinking, I should just get the LTE nexus 7 and wait for my watch , where in the world is my lte nexus? oh its over in Europe, how did they get it first :(.

xbox one release date - November 22 I will probably be trying to figure out how to ask my wife to let me get the new xbox one for $500 even though my sons birthday and Christmas is in that same season. So umm yeah time to start telling myself only loser's get it first , yeah that should make me feel better, judge others, who im sinning, i mean kidding "spirit slip." Seriously I wont get this unless GOD wills different, prayerfully its because of my discipline of service to others and not just because I'm broke or value the warmth of my wife at night haha.

Random thought, anybody tired of people taking pictures of kit-kats affixed to android phones?

things i heard 9/3

Microsoft brought Nokia - Wowzers this set the Internet on fire with thousands of nerds looking! I hear many saying this makes no since for Microsoft because it was almost as if nokia was exclusively tied to Microsoft anyway. Some say it was rumors that Nokia was debating jumping to the free android platform on some if you like microsoft put a ring on it! haha sorry

Kitkat - Android new operating system will be called kitkat, its funny people was angry because it was a 4.4 rather than a 5.0 but numbers is just numbers right, as long as it adds functionality and improvements what are you mad at? hmmm are people growing weary of android like they where until IOS 7 ? I guess this shouldn't be a big issue because most people android is different due to samsung  and htc clones, but us nexus folk is another monster. Leave a comment if you have time of what you would want to see.

Acer 6 inch - the bigger news is that thing can record 4k . Wow the unfortunate thing is that no one has a 4k tv! So whats the point? Lets put it in the boast category, and that's not it, its only dwarfed by the 6.3 mega from what I know , and a quad core 2.2 i think processor makes a techie drewl. I just never heard of acer phones, i know some people hate acer, including myself until I had the pleasure of using the c7 chromebook. I am typing on it now and I literally smile and make a mental note on how much I love the computer every time I use it and its been 2 months! I guess you can say im excited!

apple invite for sep 10th event - i thought i broke the apple curse now that im google all the way but its something about apple in the press or maybe its the crowd or whatever but the invite prompted me to watch a youtube video as a refresher on what to expect with ios7 and things looked so much more awesome than it did this summer at wwdc. I guess its the hype that gets us, GOD FORGIVE ME! The flyer had colors that seem to relate to the leaked photos of colors that supposedly come with the new cheaper iphone 5c. This isn't much a surprise because of the business since outside us for Tim Cook at the risk of loosing the luxury mystique of apple. Also this the phone most influenced by Johny Ive at his new position of authority and we know he was one of the major player behind the star burst macs!

Verizon buys out vodaphone- this is more of a business story but I guess I preferred personally American own corps like at&t despite hating giving them my business also. I know that is somewhat a old way of thinking especially knowing that in the international market very few corporations are truly or at least purely American. We are in a global economy but I am curious what will Verizon do now without outside influence.

xbox one features- xbox one is finally getting back in the news for good things, like for me personally, the nfl app will include red zone, which is fun to work with especially because the men in my family play a friendly game off office pickem each weak. It also has espn updates. The coolest thing I saw is support for 8 controllers, I don't have an idea off hand why would this be needed but what if madden had controls for a coop 8 captains.(qb, rb, 2 wides/ corners, mlb, de) wow or marvel heroes.

GOD BLESS

some things I heard 8/30

Another Slow calm before the storm of news next week!

1. Samsung leaked a upcoming wearable product - so they are going to rush a watch out. I will be honest I think apple will eventually win me back with a iwatch that I can make calls on especially if it packs in nfc so I can just scan my wrist to pay for things , and use my earpiece to make calls. Im smiling thinking about it!

2. Walmart dropped Iphone 5 to $98 - this combined with the news of apple canceling holidays the week of the 15th make it almost a no brainer for the sept 10 reveal of the new iphone(s)

3. PS3 voice recognition - for some reason Sony didnt seem to tout the camera much even though it looks like its really high quality I guess its trying to distance itself from the XBOX but I would have thought it would benefit  them to do a me too thing to take thunder from the Kinect because to be honest thats a big reason I am still thinking of going with the one!

4. Note 3 aww man this is going to be so exciting to see the iphone vs note 3! Samsung and apple never went head to head like this because their flagships was always staggered in different seasons but if the rumors are true they both are giving their best shot this september!

5. yeah so um yeah GOD BLESS

5 things i heard today 8/29

Slow day today,,..,

1. Kinect Delayed in many country's - wow anyone notice there as been a ton of bad news from Microsoft lately, I got a feeling its going to be like Sony with ps3 launch, business interfering with the potential success of the hardware.

2. Nintendo fils Aime ain't scared!- paraphrasing he said specs of the new Xbox one and ps4 doesn't scare him, its all  about games and they got Zelda, Mario , and donkey Kong ,, soak that in Zelda, Mario, donkey kong,,,now quick. Come back to the future.,,did he accident my read his note from1993?

3. Surface permanent Price cut - duh

4. Best buy iPhone 5 discount trade in your phone and get there's half off. I don't care about this in particular but bestbuy has definitely been striving hard to please customers! Amazon has been kicking there butt and with competition, the customer wins. yeah!!!

5. Aero Android app- this is and techie story most don't know about. Aero let's you watch live broadcast TV on your mobile device! In plain english it let's you watch abc CBS fox ,what my family calls "the regular channels" anywhere. The companies not feeling that because they have apps they want us to use but oh well its government mandated to have free over the air programing in exchange for Infrastructure and bandwith. (Gov helped them get rich) aerop takes advantage and pulls the signal in like a powerful antenna and then sends it to everyone for a fee, sounds like some companies I know,,,,,,,,,,,

5 things i heard today 8/28

Wow what a reach, here we go....

1. Google adds HD video to hangouts this is cool it will make more  of a reason to use hangouts unfortanetly I can't get people to try it over Skype or ugghhh oovoo nothing wrong with the later I support small time but its weird it get more traction from my crowd than Google.

2 Android will roll out improved keyboard I'm a nerd so its terribly frustrating that I have to edit so much. That combined with MW being to lazy to properly proof read leaves us both looking bad

3. Nintendo 2ds urrrrr? So are all the graphics flat? I don't have a 3d TV (not surprising) but shows aren't flat. Or tomb raider doesn't play like Mario. Hahaa I know it just means we took off the switch that made everyone sick so normal people will buy it before realizing its dumb to buy this and not the nearly ps3 quality of the 199 PS vita

4. Wii u price drop haha poor Nintendo with a "I was just playing about that price" move. I can picture people coming to the store during the Christmas season looking at the wii u demo of lugi who cares and then looking to the right and see a demo of second son running on the new ps4 for $50 more. They had to make the price drop!

5. DOCTOR PERFORMS KNEE SURGERY WHILE WEARING GOOGLE GLASS This is awesome first person experience without being there. I think that would help a great deal I'm the classroom. I guess it wasn't totally necessary but the doctor ,,,,,,KNEEDED to see if it would work! Hahhahaha
GOD BLESS

When you notice Chromebook works

So here I am laying in a bunk bed because my son is sick. He was fussy so I stayed in the room while he was falling asleep. I was naturally trying to figure out how to multi-task so I quickly grabbed my Chromebook. It was so light. I actually exclaimed that out loud to my wife because I was just using her macbook which seemed pretty heavy. I liked that it was light enough to hold in one hand as I carried my son up the steps because of course being sick took away his 2 1/2 body's ability to walk up the stairs. He kept tossing and turning so I thought to myself, I am sure glad this thing doesn't have a loud fan while using it. Who needs a loud fan when your running an browser operating system, (mind you I am using an Intel at that). I was able to quickly type up my sermon reflection for this blog without breaking a sweat. The keyboard felt so good in my hands I didn't notice how much I wrote. I was able to reshare my blog post with all of the social networks because the large screen and track pad made this task seem relatively effortless compared to trying to re post using a tablet. I felt so good I decided to type this post tonight as well due to the fact the keys feel so good its soothing to my hands as I prepare for bed. I didn't read much in terms of keyboard for this Acer C7 Chromebook but I think this may be the greatest feature of this product.

So summing up my ah ha moment, when I noticed Chromebook works:

  • I love its portability due to lack of weight.
  • The lightweight operating system creates a quiet low powered, no fuss working environment.
  • The keyboard is phenomenal on this machine and makes me want to type all day!
  • The laptop layout with track pad help to make multiple or complex tasks easy, tablets still haven't matched the precision of a keyboard and track pad.
    • FYI I'm explaining to my wife why I haven't left the room yet now that my son is fully asleep while I'm typing this out, aka multitasking
  • oh and did I mention this thing is cheap? I mean for real like I read my C7 is 129 on Acers ebay page.

So as I wrap up this "unbiased" haha post about why Chromebook works I will sum it up like this. If you only think internet when you think computer, can deal with cloud based word processing and excel, a blogger as a hobby and maybe professionally, and love to save money. Don't spend money on a fancy macbook, or a spam packed cheap windows computer. Get a delightfully affordable Chromebook!

First few days with my Nexus 7 (a nexus review)

Some background.

I have had the pleasure of using an Ipad since the first generation and instantly fell in love with it. After a few years and experiencing excellent browsing on my iPhone I noticed that it was something I was missing. I first wanted to get a bigger phone, I found myself thinking that if I had just a larger screen I would browse on my phone more. That sparked my first desire for an android device. I soon purchased a nexus 4 which has a much larger screen. I soon found myself using my phone much more than my ipad because the ipad began to seem to big and heavy for me. I once thought it had perfect portability but now frequently I decide to leave it at home because it felt like a chore to tote around. So now I have come to the conclusion, I need something bigger than a phone screen but smaller than an Ipad.

Why not ipad mini

I first experienced the ipad mini when I purchased one for my lovely mother for her respective holiday! It does help with the problem of portability but it was slightly to big to fit in my pocket. I also felt it had some weight that I wasn't happy with. The greatest problem was that I couldn't figure out a justifiable reason to spend so much money for a ipad mini that has less than half the specs of my current ipad. It has an old processor, an old screen technology , and old standard of ram! I would love to continue the large and I mean LARGE investment I made in the itunes store but it's like my grandfathered contract with At&t, how much is my investment really worth?
I noticed everyone talking about this nexus so I had to check it out, with its quad core chip, 2 gig of ram , open gl (that means it has the specks of a laptop computer). In fact it has the graphics power that you can reasonably equate to our past console, that's saying a lot for gamers. The greatest thing  was that it is smaller and lighter than the mini and $100 cheaper!

Whats so cool about it?

First look.

I was able to log in with my google account and most of my things where loaded on there! I pulled up the google now and right away it had the places I been and directions home (even though I was in my neighborhood). I instantly fell in love with its beautiful screen, even more beautiful than my retina ipad arguably. The screen was so bright and I can see it from all angles! The device feels warm and sturdy. It looks expensive and that's saying a lot! The large bezels stick out like a pimple between your eyebrows but all in all its good! I loved how after initial setup I was able to slide it in my pocket and keep going. I have a weird thing about caring things in my hands (I HATE IT!!!!!!) so putting it in my right pocket , and my phone in my left pocket which also holds my cards and I am good to go.

Wife proof

The wife was happy because it was only $229, its no where near the large investment that my $499 Ipad was. I don't know but its something special about $200. If your a middle class worker , even today, $200 doesn't seem like nothing you have to sweat about. For a device you will use for primary computing , $200 something is almost a impulse buy, especially when you consider it a savings to getting the Ipad mini for $327.

Portable

I already touched on it but its worth talking about more, I finally have a very light device I can carry around without feeling like I am carrying something around. I was able to actually read it without worrying about it falling on my face as I fall asleep. Ipad owners know what that's like! Especially with my cargo's I actually took it with wherever I went without having to think about a bag I can put it in , or holding it in my hands.

Function

I was delighted to see that its so much free stuff in the google play store. I do hate that its missing some HUGE things I need that I got on my ipad , I thought it would have been available , the largest problem is no amazon instant streaming app, or amazon mobile, I was able to side load the amazon mobile app but unfortunately I had to side load flash and FireFox to use the amazon instant in browser. (Side load is downloading a unsupported application outside the play store). I also greatly miss textbooks which should be coming soon according to the +googlenexus press conference. I also don't have power school , that will be a big point of contention because I am a teacher.
That aside, the nexus is sooo fast. The speakers are awesome for a tablet. Its dual speakers with "surround sound" allowing me to hear clearly. The fast processor allow for quick loading of beautiful video, even YouTube looks awesome. The home screen is cool with google play widget and weather, google plus populating my many home screens. I complained about the mail rendering on my nexus but this double pain rendering of email is even better (because its faster) than the industry leading Ipad. The camera is grainy but quck to pull up. I love how snappy everything is. Pure android is buttery smooth and quick like I used to tout the ios. I like the app switching tabs button pull down status menu. It is so good apple is adopting it in ios7. I also love the integration with google services. Last year I wrote how it was ironic that all I use is google services on my ios devices but now I see the benefit of being part of it full fledged. I easily share things to google plus, take pictures for google keep, pull pictures from my google+ backups, email from GMail, use hangouts etc,,, google is AWESOME!

Summing it up

I love this tablet. I haven't had this much fun with a tablet and been this excited about a product since the first ipad. I have a otg cable coming in the mail which will give me a usb port for thumb drives, ps3 controllers, and other weird nerdy tricks. I am debating a small keyboard which is only $10 on amazon. Despite the missing apps I am happy with my portable power house and I recommend it for anyone, even if you already have a ipad!

My experience with Chromecast after a few days

My experience with the +google +Chromecast

So now that I have my chromecast for a few days I have been somewhat tempered. Yes it is still well worth the money I spent on it. I still have the excitement in the potential of this device but I have had some early adopter issues.

Crashing

I noticed when I played the Netflix video form my nexus 4 my phone went black and the only way to fix it was to turn it completely off and restart (holding the power button for a long time). I have read from +Android Central that Netflix and or Google is working on a fix.

YouTube error reports

I hated to say it but I got angry at a trivial thing but I was disappointed that when I was excited to chromecast a live YouTube broadcast from +Android Central as they cover the +Motorola Mobility "Moto-X" event, and I got an error when I pressed the chrome cast. Luckily after much trial and error I was able to chromecast my chrome tab and put the feed in full screen. This may be something to look at; chrome cast of live YouTube.

No Netflix continual play

I was upset that unlike with my apple tv. I was not able to just let the video play and Netflix will move to the next video, this is helpful when watching a tv series.

So far my feelings are

Well all in all I am still happy that I got it but I just wanted to address those concerns. I love that  I can cast something from my YouTube and get back to doing something else on my phone. I noticed the video quality seem to be much better going through the chromecast, I am assuming because the device is allocating all of its resources to the video stream. It has to be some optimizations there. I found myself spending hours easily just going through different clips and playing it on my tv. The best thing about being able to search while it is playing is when you have those "this is cool but not the video I was looking for" moments. I still like to dig into my wife who is a apple fan girl (because of me) and state how she can use my chromecast from her iphone because Google is more open for tech sake (ad money too ;)) haha I see that I can sell on eBay and get enough for 3 boxes later which should be easy because I live outside of the "cool zone" of Chicago but my unwillingness to part from my chromecast speak for itself.........GOD BLESS YALL

Waiting on my Chromecast

Im soooo exited about the new chromecast. So I was already excited about the "breakfast with Sundar" which was a press conference from the person in charge of chrome and android. I was expecting something cool with the Nexus 7 but I did not expect this chromecast at all. That's what made it so exciting! I remember watching apple and experiencing the 1 more thing , this was in a weird kind of way a torch pass to google with its one more thing.

Now I am not saying that the quality of the nexus 7 and the chromecaset for that matter match the beauty and the overwhelming architecture and detail but the the spirit of ingenuity is their. It's like the coolness for the nerds rather than the masses.

So why am I excited?

Well the first thing is that now that I have moved to android from my iphone I no longer use the airplay like I used to. It feels sorta weird too switch back in forth from my ipad to my phone so most of the time I carry my nexus 4. I then find myself looking for my ipad when it is time for me to show my family something at the spur of the moment. If i have the chromecast hooked up i can easily press the button like I did in days of ye old I phone
The next thing and most important thing I look forward to is the use of the chrome browser mirroring. I see panned reviews already seemingly disregarding the "beta" tag google aggressively expressed during the press conference. I work with Linux, needlessly to say I can deal with hiccups here and their for the sake of innovation.I mainly look forward to showing webpages, like my blog for instance, while sitting amongst friends and family.
So to the critics,,
I heard a few critics noting that Hulu was laggy using the browser cast or mirroring but I believe that Hulu and vimeo , etc, will most likely hurry to add the additional function to its app to allow chromecasting so they will not be left behind netflix. I don't phantom a reason why they wouldnt though I have seen stranger things happen in the intellectual property world. I hope that it will be more on par with the offerings of apple tv soon seeing as though the apps are already available in the android store and its just a matter of an additional api. On a side note,  I am a tad bit skeptical of the lagginess review due to the fact that it pulls urls rather than device to chromecast.

Brief explanation for how it works.

For my non techies, I do not work for google and I dont have access to the materials or actual device as of me writing this but I will tell you by my percepetion and understanding of the explanation. Please feel free to correct or clarify what I got wrong: It seems as though everything is handled in the cloud. When you press the chromecast logo on your device (phone, tablet, computer) will tell the chromecast to pull the URL from the web and display it on the tv. It is as though your just giving it directions. That is cool because unlike with apple tv, I don't have to worry about keeping something on my device screen in order for other people to see it on the tv and this will help with multi-tasking!

Value

This is the best part. The chromecast only costs $35 and on top of that, the first day buyers like me got 3 months free of Netflix! This means I basically played 11 bucks for something that serve a lot of the same functions as apples $99 appletv witch I felt was a good deal anyway!

Waiting game
My device should be here by thursday and I am trying to keep my mind focused on the LORD so that I dont get to anxious. I have many things to do and luckly tomorrow is Sunday so I can pray for patience (pray for me yall) haha GOD BLESS

My journey with Acer C7 chromebook a teachers perspective

So I purchased the chromebook last week because it was on clearance open box at best buy and I was pretty excited. I am a fan of gadgets and a big fan of google so it was a perfect combination, (a cheap google gadget!) and quickly I decided I needed to load Linux on it. I am a teacher and many of the programs we use require java run time so I was forced to add java and that meant Linux. Luckily google makes it easy of course with the help of the open source community, namely this chrUbuntu blogger!

First impressions

  • its pretty light, i mean its no macbook air, but its comfortably portable
  • I LOVE the keyboard!
  • the track pad sucks!
  • this thing gets hot with Linux
  • time to use blogger to talk about it!
I pray that I am able to keep up with logging of this experience. If anyone follows me on twitter, they know I start initiatives sometimes don't finish but we will see how this goes, I am using blogger now and it seems to be quick and easy for me to maintain and I hope I can realize my dream of doing this to scale. GOD BLESS
