Why I am back to Iphone ,,again! a android fanboy treasonous tale

yes yes I the prodigal son returned home to his first love, Apple, yeah I know you heard this story before, I try and try to leave apple to get out of line with sheep but every time I think the grass is greener on the other side, I realize that apple is the best there is! So as the flames begin, continue to read if you’re not one of those fan boys that leave comments like "As soon as I read.... I stop reading your crappy isheep article".
me with my galaxy mega!
So I grew bored with IOS 6 on my iPhone 5 and I became lured to the large screen android smartphones I read about on google+. I decided to first go with the S4 after the constant advertisements during the NBA finals and popups, and YouTube ads, it was endless. I loved it initially, seeing something different, I then began reading about how things could be so much better without samcrap so I decided to go Nexus. The NEXUS 4 that was an amazing phone but I found myself missing little goodies like ir remote I used on Samsung, and multi-screen, so I decided, let’s go bigger. That leads me to Samsung Galaxy Mega! Mega is the key word, because this thing was huge! At that time, I was using the nexus 4 and 7. Toting two devices seem to be cumbersome so I wanted to get a device to rule them all. The mega satisfied my needs for a while until once again, I grew angry with the samcrap. So naturally I went to CM11. CM11 was pretty cool but it was full of quirky bugs, which is fun to work with. I used that to argue for android before, the problem though came to when I needed it to work right away, ,, ahh here comes that annoyingly true apple standout, motto "it just works".

The design and those little UI things began irritating me fairly early though I was able to ignore them. For example:

1.    Snap to the top scrolling. - I was using twitter when I first went back to android and I didn’t realize that it doesn’t have snap to the top scrolling. When you began to scroll through your feed on twitter and google+. Sometimes you want to go back to the top right away, on android you have to begin rolling that finger! It speeds up but that’s the best you can do! Google+ implemented this but the browser still makes me scroll through reddit and xda etc.

2.    Pull to refresh- listing to podcaster and stitcher forces me to find the little widget to refresh my feed vs just pulling down. On my mega, I was waiting for the green refresh arrow to pop up. It is just much easier to pull "thinking pull in new content.

3.    Quick settings from the bottom up - ironically Apple actually seem to copy this feature from android but like apple they steal or "gets inspiration" from others who mess up first and clean it up to make it work. I know kitkat has the two finger gesture to separate settings from notifications but I use the calculator and flashlight all the time and I like being able to scroll up and get what I need. I also really like how I get to my stitcher music controls from the bottom separate from the notifications on the top, (because the top notifications still sucks! )

4.    Google apps - That was one of the nails in my android owning coffin, the google apps looks so much better on iPhone, it’s like they made it for the iPhone and just ported it on android, or made it an afterthought. Hangouts is awesome on iPhone, the colors pop and options are quick for things like hangout video etc. Google + scrolls nice, and the notifications and everything get out of the way. Yes the feed is harder to see on the small screen but wow! Apple even let my password load on all of my google apps automatically. There was little difference between the sync of my google account over the iOS apps like android apps. It is almost like I never gave up what made android best, instead it feels like a visual change to my android.

5.     Print - iprint is so seamless, I was toting google cloud print to others but the last
print right there!!!!
week of my android ownership came when I was attempting to print out an emailed coupon. I found myself struggling to connect for some odd reason and the button was inconsistently popping up. I sent the email to my wife’s IPhone and she just tapped and printed! WOW! I couldn’t believe how easy it was, she saw my expression and smirked, "yeah it just works" ..

6.    I was laughing at how you never see the apple community talk about how they are angry because they still are waiting for the update to kit kat, Samsung just announced that 4.4 is coming to the mega in the next month but the month after that Google will announce the next version. When apple release an update we all get it! No wait, no matter the carrier, it works! (there I go again)

7.    Apps in general - I was so upset when I was on my surface and mega trying to work with the WWE app on my chromecast and I went through lag, quirks, freezes, and pixelization. I grew ill one day and was regulated to the bedroom with an apple TV and it was a totally different experience. Using my wife’s IPhone I was scrolling in beauty as the app loaded up perfectly looking good. I tried PlayOn which was a lagggy nightmare, but when I tried it on iOS, and it feel worth the lifetime membership I paid.

8.    Contextual keyboard. - I didn’t really pay too much attention but when it was in Instagram, I saw the @ and # sign in the corner waiting for me, making it easier for me to bang a comment out quickly. I see I type better too with less mistakes, my buddy +Alex Glover always make fun saying "that’s that android keyboard" when he get messages like "hty yoy kile that song? I have seen an improvement in just a couple of days.
notice the keyboard icons in the corner?

On Another note
No matter how much I enjoy the user interface and beauty and solidness of hardware, I can’t ignore one MAJOR sore point, this phone is Tiny! It wouldn’t be so glaringly small if I wasn’t coming from a 6.3 inch screen but I am squinty my eyes trying to read the text on websites, and google+. I soon was reminded of one of the biggest reasons why I wanted to go android, a bigger screen. You can defend Apple using a plethora of evidence but this is not one of them. There is no way you can argue that the screen is perfect. With that being said I do like being able to use it with one hand comfortably but I think you can go bigger without messing that comfort up.
I also miss the easy sharing capabilities with android. When I took a picture it was easy to share to any program I like right from the camera app. I thought I remember doing this so if I am don’t criticize me, criticize apple for not making intuitive enough to notice. Android let all the apps talk to each other so I can share between google+ and Instagram easily. I see I can’t do the same.
I miss my slide keyboard. It was pretty cool sliding through the keys to type faster even though I ended with many mistakes.
The notifications are horrible, its random stuff, random things I don’t care about, stock, and it’s to transparent for my old eyes to see differentiate what imp looking at in a glance

Conclusion
I came back and at least for now, I can say I am going to stick with the IPhone! I have the option of upgrading in September due to the pricing wars I wrote about in another article. I am hoping the rumored 4.7 inch iPhone will solve the remaining angst I have about the iPhone. I keep looking at that White and Gold beauty, holding the well-constructed metal
Sorry!!!
and glass, opening up with my thumbprint and think to myself, what was I thinking leaving you? ..haha GOD BLESS

Ok now that that's out the way,, ,WHO CARES!!!

I say this in jest of course but there is a string of truth , I was just thinking that once again Samsung did its best iPhone impression using android and many people will love it! I personally run cm mod and just downloaded the watch-on app for the remote but Im a a true techie. Ripping Apple has proved to be very successful for Samsung but this time I believe that Samsung stole the good ; fingerprint scanner i guess, with the bad; small iteration. This announcement eerily reminded me of the s generation of iPhone. Iphone 4 and 5 was newsworthy and 4s and 5s ,,,,,not so much. I am now fearful that Samsung will now go to a on and off cycle!
The waterproof case, fingerprint, and heart rate scanner is a cool plus but nothing that demands an upgrade! Maybe its the trend now for phones now that we have reached that point in phone tech in which we are only going to have tweaks and polishes, liken to what we have now with pc's. No one is lining up for the new pc even macs,, OK maybe mac pros but that was years in the making!
I thank GOD I don't feel the temptation to upgrade I guess my wife don't have to put me on the couch for spending to much haha. GOD BLESS

Will major announcements of android os be a thing of the past?

I like many are waiting by my nexus device anxiously waiting for kit Kat to be released while living vicariously through post of others with their nexus 5. I have noticed something trending, many of my internal android apps have been updating! Things that you usually have to wait for a new version for is now updating on the regular like the first one I noticed, Google maps. Now today I see Google keyboard, there was also recently text to speech. I for one love this modular experience in which I'm constantly getting update. That's a strong reason why I support chrome is. Yes I will miss the angst of waiting for that is release, but isn't it better to give your customers the best you have instead of creating a artificial development cycle?
This will also help with fragmentation issues, at least how customers perceive it. If I'm stuck with a outdated phone that came out in ancient history, you know 4 months ago,  I can still enjoy the latest features bypassing my provider via play store. Let me know what you think..GOD BLESS

ok hooray nexus 5 but LG G2 is still cool!

So now that everyone is talking about the nexus 5 I decided this would be a perfect time to talk the G2 :/ .... ok ok its kinda overdue / late but i recently seen the G2 and for a moment, it totally took my mind off the nexus for a while. What makes this even more interesting is how it came to my attention ..

I like many was not really thinking about the G2 much more than to think how this was going to translate into the next nexus,, (see what I did there?). The nexus 4 was based of the Optimus G so this is what we were expecting this time around. So I was walking through the media center at the school I work at when I noticed this phone with a big bright beautiful screen!
I had to be about 10 ft away but I noticed the phone lying on the counter with a bright screen! Woah! I almost screeched out, "what phone is that!" My co worker notified me that it was the G2 so I dropped what I was doing and asked him can I see more, so much more that I wanted to record it. This wow factor is missed on many of the redundant black slab phones. Specs are usually lost on the general public and noticeability is usually reserved to Samsung's horizontal home button and 3 icons, and of course apples home button and apple logo. As I was looking at this phone people came up behind me noticing that the phone's screen looked awesome. This reminded me of the led tv when I first saw it in a best buy. It somehow, stood out. Being able to see it from far away speaks for itself. The trailer for transformers was perfect for showing off the screen.

My coworker was also so kind to let me go through the phone, the knock feature was really cool, I enjoyed the quickness of the scrolling, I did not notice lag with the scrolling, the camera app was pretty cool with the ois. It seemed futuristic as the green blocks searched for a target to shoot and my shaky caffeine induced hands really put it to the test. I did noticed the knock didn't respond each time I hit so I am not sure if there is some smoothness to work out there. The buttons on the back felt ok to me. Not good not bad but I actually like the ,,,I'm so sorry for this ,,,, "selfie" usability that this button provides. I also like the smoothness on the sides and being able to do scrolling if I understand it correctly.

Check out the video of me trying it out below!
So hopefully you will take a break and maybe consider taking another look at the G2 , I would like to see the nexus 5 and the G2 screen together, ooops there I go again, haha GOD BLESS
haha nexus 4 next to G2

Top 5 things I like about Android 4.4 Kit-Kat and why!

Kit Kat is released ! - I was so happy to see this. If you are a fan of nexus you have been waiting for this for a long, and i mean looong time. Especially after being bombarded by news out lets and apple fanboys or isheep touting the updates to ios7. This is one part sinful jealousy and one part anxious anticipation. I know this is just a .1 update but this update is nice! So I wanted to write a post about the things that I am most excited about with Kit Kat 4.4

1. Full screen wallpaper - on the nexus a part of the screen was taken up by a  task bar and black tool bar which housed the navigation buttons, this cheated us of screen real-estate. Now this will be transparent allowing us to enjoy the full screen especially nice with the 5 inch nexus 5.

2. SMS (cell number texts) hangout integration with Emoticons - this is really helpful because I do find it a tad bit cumbersome to go between two apps, some for my sms, others for my hangout friends. I like this central place, I am hoping that since its integrating in the same app, I can view both messages on my nexus 7 too. I also like emoticons. Apple people often make fun of the little black androids we are forced to use when using mms, but hangouts emojis are even better than ios to me, so I can use that now. I know some are saying "how old is this guy" but don't judge me haha I use it with my wife! (manly voice).

3. NFC Emulator - my non techies dont know what this is  , NFC is used by many of my readers at work. I am happy about the emulator because it will let me integrate my nfc cards in my phone so I can use that to buzz in. They also made it possible for more phones to use Google wallet, and enable other banks to create their own payment app. I am hoping for the day when I can just carry my phone to any store to pay for what I need! That would make traveling so much easier when I just have to keep up with my phone , not my phone AND wallet.

4. Smart Dialer - This is going to be one of those overlooked things that is going to help a lot in the long run. You heard it here first, this is going to be the next thing IOS is going to try to "borrow". Anyway , the dialer app will allow you to begin typing in the name of place and the app will search the internet for that phone number. This is amazing! I was just complaining to my wife that I had to throw this phone book away that was delivered yesterday committing on how its a gross misuse of paper and money. I know most people now go to the browser on thier phone and google the place they need a number for. Now that will be a thing of the past because the dialer in kitkat will find the number for you! I wish my dad had this for his phone! I can imagine the time, and conveyance I will have with this feature

5. Google always listening- "OK GOOGLE" is all I need to pull up google now which is awesome, That is one of the main show off features when you are around people and they ask "whats so cool about android." We can pretend like we don't , but we all like to have something that makes people go wow when you get something new. The first 4 things just made google better but this is a wow card. That is similar to the fingerprint scan. Even if you are too mature of saint to want to show it off (which is a blessing) you still want something on your own that you can marvel at.

Well this is what I am most excited about in kit-kat. Some people may feel different, let me know if you think something else should have made the top 5. GOD BLESS

Is there anything Apple can do at their announcement to win over android loyalist?

A little bit around this time last year I began my grand experience of dropping many of my apple products for Google. I was looking at Chromebooks and researching the app parity of Google play vs app store. If you keep up with my blog you know that over the past year or so I have been pretty much fully vested in the Google universe and this once self admitted apple fanboy became one of the biggest advocates for android and chrome os I know personally. So of course in lieu of the recent apple event announcement a few people at my job took this time to throw a few jabs my way. More than one person remarked, "so I guess your going to come back to apple after tomorrow right". I laughed and said "never that" initially, but later my reply became "it will take a lot". The final time I was asked I hesitantly replied, "we will see urrr ummm nawl I cant picture it!" That last retort led me to writing this post. Is there something apple can actually say tomorrow that will make me come back as the prodigal son? Can apple ignite that nerd excitement? I was thinking about things like maybe:
1. Ipad mini retina with scaled down size comparable to nexus 7
2. Apple Iwatch with more capabilities or versatility than galaxy gear
3. Added feature to iworks and icloud in which everything is saved every few seconds ala Google.

Well it feels as though im pretty much reaching so maybe I should ask you, is there anything apple can do to make a android loyalist switch?....

I believe it will start 10:00 a.m. pdt. Last year it was live for SAFARI browsers ONLY and of course I will be watching on 2 different tech sites. I usually use cnet.com and twit.tv and you guys can look for remarks from me if you cant get those sites at work haha. GOD BLESS

Things I heard 10/17/2013

Nexus 5 coming? - Any one else getting irritated, I even saw this video from someone in Europe showing kit kat, it was not something to get excited about other than the prospect of a new phone. Then I got Google seemingly playing with our emotions with the random adds like "everybody dance now." We are wasting time thinking about C and C releasing the song on October 18th and then people saying the group used to be 28 street something so the announcements will be made on the 18th for the 28th release. Then we see an ad saying this is it, a MJ single released on the 18th! haha are they that clever? The bigger story was somebody had time to research and figure this out. Wow talk about a potential detective in the wrong career. Too bad Bin Laden didn't have a nexus, we would've caught him early!

HTC ONE MAXed out - I thought it was pretty awesome. I will spare you my usual speech about how the bigger the phone the better, oppps , Well anyway critics seemingly doesnt think so , I guess because it has a snapdragon 600 instead of 800 which is a lost for the geeks , and then the back cover comes off just for a sim card , ummm yeah. The finger print sensor I guess isn't good, its weird how apple manages to make simple things look cool and just work. I wonder did they rush the scanner or that was just he best they can do for a reasonable price as of now.

Sony Z ultra - the dream phone for me is coming to the states with a dream if they think I will actually buy it at the outrageous price of 600+ us. Yes I understand the value of unlocked phones but lets face it , technology changes to much for me to spend over 400 for a phone! Thats the genious in the early upgrade plans. I know geeks willing to shell out $600 + for a phone are going to be angry if they are stuck with a phone more than a year! All being said if something magical makes this phone imaginable I will defenitley get it but with the pricing and lack of carrier support, Its not mentioned in the same conversation as your galaxy  and one's

Samsung Round - really? So I want a phone thats harder to put in my pocket just because its possible to be bent? Its stuck in that position, so whats fascinating about curved grass? Who folds paper to read it? Nope try again! I would like a phone with a display on the sides giving the display a infitnity view type look with the time on top , umm my idea sucks too a little I guess. (pic below from phandroid.com)

Windows 8.1 is here! - this is only cool to me because it is for 8 inch tablets! This will make a tablet people want because most of us have a windows laptop (not me) and they want to have some windows functionality on the go. I touched on this before and I am still excited. I have my nexus 7 but this does have my attention. Upgrade today for your start screen , your ability to boot right into desktop, and easier settings. Well I guess you should upgrade if you hate the new look of windows 8 but you are willing to compromise.

Apple announcement official - the event will be Tuesday October 22. They said they have a lot more to cover! hmm an announcement on covers yeah!!!! well who has two thumbs to watch even though he claims he moved on from apple,,,,,This Guy!
wait thats one thumb, well anyway I'm not the only one, we will all be watching. Its like watching the Tom Brady throw that touchdown (I like Tom Brady tho).

Video of this post below.

on side note, most importantly I praise GOD for the traffic I have been getting I didn't expect thousands of visits so soon, I am just trying to learn but its a goal of mine! Please subscribe , share my page/posts, and talk about it!  GOD BLESS!

things I heard 10/4 "stop carrying your wallet and take your tv"

Dell 8 inch dell venue windows 8.1 tablet  - this is amazing! this thing comes in at $299 putting it in cheap tablet category. That is something that a lot of people have been waiting for in terms of windows. I think they should have don't this a long time ago because if they did we would be much more interested. I hope its not a little to late for them because I think its a valuable solution to the people that are used to windows and using office products but have the need for a cheap tablet they can carry everywhere. I know people make fun of Microsoft's mobile strategies but the platform is actually pretty nice in my opinion. This thing should be compatible with local printers without the need of 3rd party software, compatible with any file your coworker might send natively have a sd card slot for expansion and it has 32 gigs standard. I guess you can say I think its awesome! What about you?

Cheap Android tablets galore- I keep hearing every other day of a sub $200 android tablet. This is the new trend in tech. I think the cheap android mini tablet is the new net book. I see so many of my relatives and students showing me there tablet they got a "deal" for with its dark grainy skin , with slow movement , and lack of app store support. I think one thing about the android that I don't care for is the lack of understanding people have between android and tablets like Nexus, note 10.1 etc... On that note we have Archos introducing 3 tablets that seemingly is only grabbing headlines because its cheap!

Abc and CBS tv everywhere- both major networks announced on demand video of their prime time service within 24 hours of airing. This is amazing I spent countless hours working with hacks and crappy software trying to take my tv with me. This is the beauty of companies like Aereo. They have disrupted the market offering tv everywhere through legal technicalities forcing ABC and CBS to be proactive and give customers like me what they want so they can at least gain ad money from us!

TMOBILE announce the uncarier 3 event October 9- in the previous 2 events tmobile announced no contract pricing , and early upgrades respectfully but now the third event is on the horizon. I am trying to decide what else do I complain about in terms of phone carriers. I know I don't like paying for minutes when I talk maybe 20 minutes a month. I know they have a data only plan but it is pretty much not promoted. Its actually relatively hard to find. It can also be an announcement of a text and data plan only! This would be pretty cool all be it unnecessary because with data I can just use hangout. I also heard that tmobile has already been producing nfc sim cards. Our sims are tied to us already so its more secure and it will allow us to put the sim in iphones, which will create a much larger adoption rate of nfc cable phones. Wow a uncarier announcement to uncarry your wallet !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

oh yeah still waiting on nexus 5,,,,,more pics, more specs, more thirst,,,,,,,,,GOD BLESS

things i heard 9/3

Microsoft brought Nokia - Wowzers this set the Internet on fire with thousands of nerds looking! I hear many saying this makes no since for Microsoft because it was almost as if nokia was exclusively tied to Microsoft anyway. Some say it was rumors that Nokia was debating jumping to the free android platform on some if you like microsoft put a ring on it! haha sorry

Kitkat - Android new operating system will be called kitkat, its funny people was angry because it was a 4.4 rather than a 5.0 but numbers is just numbers right, as long as it adds functionality and improvements what are you mad at? hmmm are people growing weary of android like they where until IOS 7 ? I guess this shouldn't be a big issue because most people android is different due to samsung  and htc clones, but us nexus folk is another monster. Leave a comment if you have time of what you would want to see.

Acer 6 inch - the bigger news is that thing can record 4k . Wow the unfortunate thing is that no one has a 4k tv! So whats the point? Lets put it in the boast category, and that's not it, its only dwarfed by the 6.3 mega from what I know , and a quad core 2.2 i think processor makes a techie drewl. I just never heard of acer phones, i know some people hate acer, including myself until I had the pleasure of using the c7 chromebook. I am typing on it now and I literally smile and make a mental note on how much I love the computer every time I use it and its been 2 months! I guess you can say im excited!

apple invite for sep 10th event - i thought i broke the apple curse now that im google all the way but its something about apple in the press or maybe its the crowd or whatever but the invite prompted me to watch a youtube video as a refresher on what to expect with ios7 and things looked so much more awesome than it did this summer at wwdc. I guess its the hype that gets us, GOD FORGIVE ME! The flyer had colors that seem to relate to the leaked photos of colors that supposedly come with the new cheaper iphone 5c. This isn't much a surprise because of the business since outside us for Tim Cook at the risk of loosing the luxury mystique of apple. Also this the phone most influenced by Johny Ive at his new position of authority and we know he was one of the major player behind the star burst macs!

Verizon buys out vodaphone- this is more of a business story but I guess I preferred personally American own corps like at&t despite hating giving them my business also. I know that is somewhat a old way of thinking especially knowing that in the international market very few corporations are truly or at least purely American. We are in a global economy but I am curious what will Verizon do now without outside influence.

xbox one features- xbox one is finally getting back in the news for good things, like for me personally, the nfl app will include red zone, which is fun to work with especially because the men in my family play a friendly game off office pickem each weak. It also has espn updates. The coolest thing I saw is support for 8 controllers, I don't have an idea off hand why would this be needed but what if madden had controls for a coop 8 captains.(qb, rb, 2 wides/ corners, mlb, de) wow or marvel heroes.

GOD BLESS
